CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

Prior to the official opening, delegates were given the opportunity to visit the exhibition area during the Welcome Reception. On Wednesday morning the Conference was officially opened by Mrs Katalin Sándor Szilágyi, General Director of the Hungarian Banknote Printing Corporation, who compared and contrasted this Conference with the one held 5 years earlier. (Over twice the number of delegates, 11 sponsors compared with just 1, and 35 Exhibitors compared with 6.) Presentations were made over the next two days, covering: Regional Currency Production, Security Paper Production, Holograms and Tax Stamp Developments, Security Printing – Technical Developments, ID and E-Passport, use and Developments, Central Bank and Governmental Issues. WORKSHOPS On the first day, a parallel E-Passport Workshop was organised with a Panel consisting of representatives from De La Rue ID Systems, UK Immigration Service – NDFU, Osterreichische Staatsdruckerei, SDU Identification. On the second day, a similar Workshop to discuss Security Paper was arranged with a Panel Representatives from BSC International, Rexor, Security Papers UK, and Crane AB. Both Workshops attracted lively debate between the Panel members and delegates, and all concerned considered them worthwhile and worth repeating at future Conferences.

Presentations were made by the following companies:

EXHIBITION

As usual the Exhibition was located next to the Conference Hall allowing easy interchange between the Conference and Exhibition. The Exhibition area featured displays and literature from 35 prominent companies within the industry and provided excellent opportunities for suppliers and end-users to network.

SOCIAL EVENTS

On Wednesday evening all Delegates were invited to attend a Gala Dinner at the Budapest History Museum. After a welcome drink, delegates split into different groups for a tour of the museum with guides speaking different languages. A tense few minutes followed whilst organisers found seats for everybody at the Gala Dinner due to the large number of delegates, but thankfully everybody was found a place. The main dinner was held on a glass covered courtyard within the museum. The dinner itself was part waiter served and buffet and was accompanied by wines from the famous wine regions of Hungary. A Gypsy orchestra provided musical accompaniment to the evening.

TOUR OF DIÓSGYŐRI PAPER MILL, THE HUNGARIAN BANKNOTE and SECURITY PAPERMILL

Following past tradition of previous Pan European High Security Print Conferences the Diósgyőri Paper Mill, as Honorary Sponsor, invited delegates to visit their Papermill on the Friday following the conference. This involved an early start from Budapest, and a 3 hour coach journey in each direction, but over 60 delegates took advantage of this unique opportunity. Delegates saw the manufacture of security paper on a unique duel cylinder mould/fourdrinier papermachine capable of making the highest grades of Security Paper, including paper for Hungarian currency. This was followed by a visit to the museum where delegates were able to discover the history of papermaking and the history of the papermill itself, as well as making some hand-made paper themselves. After visiting the papermill, Delegates were able to visit the Diósgyőri Castle , followed by a sumptuous buffet lunch at a local restaurant basking in Hungarian Spring sunshine. The feedback provided by delegates and exhibitors during the event confirmed that this was the most successful conference to date with a high proportion confirming their intention to attend the next Conference to be held in Prague.
