REVIEW
INTRODUCTION
Cross Conferences – No 1 Regional High Security Printing Conference in
Asia
Cross Conferences held the 5th Asian High Security Printing Conference and
1st Asia Pacific Cash Handling Seminar in the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur
between 12 - 14 September 2006. The chosen venue was the prestigious 5 star
Sheraton Imperial Hotel situated only a short distance from the city centre.
Cross Conferences are renowned for their innovative approach to their
Conferences and this year was no different. Integrating a Cash Handling
Seminar and Workshop alongside the more traditional High Security Printing
Conference enhanced the number of attendees, especially from National and
Central Banks such as Bank of Uganda, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Bahrain
Monetary Agency, etc. The total number of attendees was 250, plus a number
of VIP Guests from the Malaysian Government, Police and Passport
Authorities. Delegates from 35 different countries attended the Conference,
including 54 from Central Banks and Government Security Printers, and a
further 45 from Commercial Security Printers and Government Security
Organisations. Proving Cross Conferences is the number 1 Regional High
Security Printing Conference in Asia is the fact that 43% of the
organisations attending the Conference were from Asia.
CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
The 1st Asia Pacific Cash Handling Seminar and High Security Printing
Conference was officially opened by the General Secretary of the Ministry of
Internal Security, Mr Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof. Mr Gark Teck Tan then
started the working sessions and there were 13 speakers on the first day of
the Cash Handling, followed by a second day comprising 6 workshop topics and
further presentations.
Throughout the 3 days of the Cash Handling Seminar and the High Security
Printing Conference delegates were free to browse at the booths of the 28
sponsor and exhibiting organisations, in particularly those of the Sponsors
from KBA-GIORI, Digital Identification Solutions and Amera International.
At the end of the Cash Handling Seminar Mr Neville Barnes welcomed the
joining delegates for the High Security Printing Conference at the Welcome
Cocktail Reception, sponsored by François-Charles Oberthur Fiduciaire. At
registration all delegates were given a personalised security badge prepared
and printed using the latest Digital Identification Solutions software.
Mr Neville Barnes, from BSC International formally opened the High Security
Printing Conference on behalf of Cross Group and BSC International, the
Conference Partners. The Conference then proceeded with eloquent papers from
VeriDoc (Malaysia), Voice Trust (Germany) and the Institute of Information
Technology (Germany). After a break for morning coffee, Mr Cross took up the
Chairmanship for papers from Infineon (Singapore), Protectprint (Malaysia)
and Bank of Thailand Note Printing Works.
Following an excellent lunch in a choice of the hotel’s Chinese and Italian
restaurants, papers were presented from Jura (Hungary), Drent Goebel
(Germany) and KBA-GIORI (Switzerland). After afternoon tea, Mr Victor Ionov
introduced papers from Alfa Bank (Russia), Unigraphica (Liechtenstein) and
Regula (Belarus).
The attendees then enjoyed a most magnificent excursion to the top of the
Kuala Lumpur Tower, the 4th highest telecommunications tower in the world,
sponsored by KBA-GIORI. The Tower provided wonderful views of the city of
Kuala Lumpur during a sumptuous buffet in the famous revolving restaurant.
Mr Tan Gark Teck opened the second day with presentations from Manipal
Institute (India), Security Papers UK and Mr P K Biswas from the
Reserve Bank of India, followed by Hologram Industries (France) and Demax
(Bulgaria).
Lunch time presented a further opportunity for delegates to visit the
extensive Exhibition. Some say that the best is kept till last, and the
afternoon session was no exception with Steven Ng introducing papers from
Iris Corporation (Malaysia), Digital Identification Solutions (Germany) and
Cross Match Technologies (Germany). After a short break, the Conference was
concluded with papers from the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Goznak”
(Russia) and Shanghai Mite (China).
The Conference was formally closed by Mr Colin Cross and Mr Neville Barnes,
who both thanked the delegates and exhibitors for attending the 5th Asian
High Security Printing Conference and invited everybody to meet again in
Budapest, in April 2007. It was also announced that Cross Conferences hope
to hold the next Asian High Security Printing Conference in Hong Kong in
October 2007.
The delegates then retired to the exhibition area for farewell drinks, and a
final chance to view the exhibition and network with their colleagues.
