REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The 2nd Asian High Security Printing Conference, held in the luxurious Hilton Hotel, Shanghai, China on 8-9 October 2003 was a resounding success.

With 200+ Delegates from over 50 companies in the high security industry attending from around the world, this event attracted some of the biggest names in the business, including KBA-GIORI, Tech Epikos, De La Rue Security Print, Landqart, SICPA Security Systems, Giesecke & Devrient, Royal Joh. Enschedé, Komori and Note Printing Australia.

The Honorary Sponsor of the Conference was China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPMC). Other Government bodies attending included Bank of Thailand Note Printing Works, Uzbekistan Security Print Works, Central Bank of Malaysia, Ministry of Finance, India and Hong Kong Note Printing Works.

PRESENTATIONS

The 2 day conference was opened by President Liu Shi'an from CBPMC and included 27 presentations from leading experts with simultaneous English/Chinese translation. The sessions ranged from "The Developing Situation of Banknote Printing in China" to "Security Printing – Global Developments".

EXHIBITION

This part of the conference proved extremely successful and was sold out within weeks of the conference announcement. The exhibition area featured displays and literature from over 25 companies within the industry and provided excellent opportunities for suppliers and end-users to meet.

The exhibitors and Delegates enjoyed the free services of a Chinese scriptwriter, who was very busy on the final day transcribing names into Chinese. The results were taken home as souvenirs.

SOCIAL EVENTS/TOUR

These included the Welcome Cocktail Reception, Gala Dinner and exclusive tour of the Shanghai Banknote Printing Factory, followed by a buffet lunch provided by CBPMC. All proved extremely popular and were enjoyed by the Delegates and their partners. These events were useful opportunities for extended networking.
